Environmental Epidemiology

Introduction   |   Current Reseach   |   Realisations

The general objective of this theme is to study and develop methods for measuring exposure to environmental contaminants so that they can be used in epidemiological studies. In these studies, exposure measurement presents a major challenge:

  • Exposure measurement is a complex task due to several factors. One of these factors is that the measurements must apply to large groups of subjects and therefore must not be very costly or invasive
  • In the studies, the subjects are generally observed over long periods, which necessitates a reconstruction of past exposures
  • For several contaminants, there are no proven exposure quantification methods for field use.
  • Finally, exposure levels are often low and require detection methods that are increasingly sensitive.

In particular, we will study exposure measurement methods applicable to children and pregnant women.
